At the initiative of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency a working meeting with the Turkish Veterinary Services was held in connection with the introduced control measures for FMD in the sanitary cordon of Bulgaria and the European part of Turkey.

Both sides exchanged information on the clinical and laboratory research, analysis and measures to implement the strict supervision and control of FMD disease in cloven-hoofed animals.
Based on an analysis of the data by the veterinary experts from the Republic of Turkey is considered that the FMD virus circulating in the European part of Turkey and there is a potential danger for it to pass through wild animals and can infect domestic and wild animals in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria has approved a plan for disease surveillance of FMD, which was approved by the European Commission, is obliged to execute it. For this purpose, experts from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency shall take all necessary measures to control program to prevent the virus from entering the country.
