The Minister of Agriculture of Brazil, Mr Blairo Maggi, has announced that modifications are being implemented in the Brazilian veterinary inspection system. After the Carne Fraca Operation, audits have been carried out in the abattoirs that have caused the changes that are underway.

The government is adding control practices already proven in the USA and the EU to increase the safety and the confidence in the Brazilian products. The USA model is based on the hazard analysis, with assessments of the exposure to pathogens, the adoption of management measures and a permanent communication between all the parts involved in the production process. The European model is based on the inspection and the inclusion of complementary figures, such as official agents.
