Austria - Slaughterings and meat production in 2009

In 2009 5.597.000 pigs, 620.000 cattle, 80.200 calves, 290.000 sheep and lambs, 41.300 goats and kids and 978 horses, foals and other equidae were slaughtered.

In 2009 5.597.000 pigs, 620.000 cattle, 80.200 calves, 290.000 sheep and lambs, 41.300 goats and kids and 978 horses, foals and other equidae were slaughtered.

The calculated number of pigs slaughtered in the reference year was 0.7% or 40 900 higher than in 2008. 92.9% of all slaughterings were carried out in the federal provinces of Upper Austria (2 129 000 units; 38.0% share), Styria (1 847 000 units; 33.0% share) and Lower Austria (1 223 000 units; 21.9% share).
