ASF Spain: New cases in the high-risk zone

The Official Veterinary Services (SVO) of the Generalitat de Catalunya have reported three new secondary outbreaks involving a total of 18 animals.

Since the last update on the African swine fever (ASF) situation dated January 23, the Official Veterinary Services (SVO) of the Generalitat de Catalunya have reported the detection of three new secondary outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boars.

A total of 18 animals were found dead, all located within the high-risk zone defined by a 6-kilometer radius around the initial cases.

This brings the total number of outbreaks reported to date to 23, three of which are primary and 20 secondary, giving a total of 103 positive cases.

In addition, another 833 animals have been tested and found PCR negative, of which 468 were captured and 365 were sampled through passive surveillance (whole carcasses or remains found in the wild or animals with symptoms that were killed) in the infected area and its surroundings.
