The Food and Veterinary Service has detected the fourth outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in the country this year on a pig farm in Ģibuļi parish with 4,900 pigs owned by Nygaard International.

A quarantine zone has been established around the ASF-affected holding. The Veterinary Service will intensify inspections of the health status of pigs and compliance with biosecurity requirements in this area. Restrictions have also been established for the movement of pigs and pig products in the quarantine zone.

There have been three other outbreaks in domestic pigs so far this year in Latvia, with the first reported in May. The farms had between 6 and 55 pigs. ASF has also been detected in 938 wild boars in the country this year.

Last year, a total of seven outbreaks in 14 pigs were reported to ADIS, and 1,433 outbreaks in wild boars.
