The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy reported that total meat consumption in Argentina grew by 3.85% year-on-year in 2025. According to data from the National Directorate of Livestock Production, per capita consumption rose from 112.16 kg in 2024 to 116.48 kg, marking the highest level of the 2020-2025 period.
Within this overall growth, pork was the best-performing category. Per capita pork consumption increased from 17.42 kg in 2024 to 18.89 kg in 2025, representing an 8.44% year-on-year increase. In absolute terms, pork consumption rose by 1.47 kg per capita, positioning itself as the main driver of the increase in total meat consumption.

Meanwhile, beef consumption increased from 48.49 kg to 49.92 kg per capita (+2.94%), while poultry consumption rose from 46.25 kg to 47.68 kg (+3.07%). Although both categories showed increases, the growth in pork consumption stood out both for its rate of increase and for its contribution to the change in the composition of animal protein consumption.
These results reflect a greater diversification in meat consumption, with a structural trend towards an increasing share of pork, driven by its price competitiveness, versatility of cuts, and nutritional quality.
The performance of pork consumption in 2025 reflects the work done to strengthen production, improve the sector's competitiveness, and guarantee the population's access to quality animal-based foods, in a context of sustained transformation of consumption habits in Argentina.
