The National Health and Food and Agriculture Quality Service (Senasa) of Argentina updated the Regulation for the Inspection of Products, Byproducts and Animal Derived Products approved by the Decree 4238/68, with the adding of the chapter about animal welfare.

The regulation incorporates criteria for the protection of the animals, placing this country among those that obey the internationally demanded standards.

This regulation, adopted by means of the Senasa Decision No. 46/2014, will be complemented with the development of manuals for the use of the animal welfare concept during the slaughter of the animals.

In the last years, animal welfare has acquired importance all over the world due to the regulations developed by the Animal Health World Organization (OIE), that have been adopted by the developed countries and that include new requests for their requirements for the importation of animal derived products.
