TOPIGSNorsvinTOPIGS and Norsvin have signed a strategic agreement that marks the start of a long-term collaboration between the two breeding companies. The agreement makes it possible for Norsvin to use the TOPIGS Z-line for production of commercial sows in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. Furthermore, it enables both companies to have access to new products and technology. TOPIGS and Norsvin have a lot in common at a strategic level: both are farmer owned and both invest a lot in R&D.

SPF breeding stock and semen will be imported from the Netherlands or other approved high-health TOPIGS sources to build up a breeding population of TOPIGS Z-line breeding pigs in Norway. The imports from TOPIGS to Norway will follow strict hygiene protocols to ensure the highest health status. The import will allow Norsvin to introduce commercial sows with TOPIGS Z-line genes onto the Scandinavian market in early 2013.

Another part of the agreement is about the cooperation between TOPIGS and Norsvin in the field of research and development. Norsvin and TOPIGS have previously worked together on specific R&D projects and have now agreed to investigate the possibilities for further collaboration in research on swine genetics.

With a production of more than 1,100,000 crossbred gilts and over 7 million doses of semen per year, Dutch-based TOPIGS is one of the biggest genetics suppliers in the world. In several countries, TOPIGS is either the market leader or one of the major suppliers. TOPIGS stands for progress in pigs. This means research, innovation and genetic improvement are the cornerstones of our company. By continuously improving our products, we enable our clients to achieve maximum results.

Norsvin is a Norwegian pig breeding company and is a market leader in Scandinavia. Norsvin is also active in the Baltic states and North America. Norsvin is the only company in the world that uses CT scanning on all boars tested. This applies to both the maternal and paternal lines.
