logoEvonik utilized the shutdown of the methionine facilities in September and October at its Antwerp production site to modernize the logistics infrastructure for MetAMINO® (DL-methionine). A new filling installation and an expanded storage area for big bags increase Evonik’s flexibility to provide customers with their preferred packaging. The updates improve occupational safety and contribute to global supply security for MetAMINO®.

“We see an increasing demand for larger packaging units in the methionine market”, says Dr. Dirk Hoehler, responsible for the amino acid business of Evonik Animal Nutrition. “With the new, state-of-the-art filling facility, we are well equipped to meet current and future customer requirements.”

Apart from big bags (1,000 kilogram), MetAMINO® from Antwerp is available in 25-kilogram bags and as bulk material. A few months ago, Evonik introduced a more environmentally friendly 25-kilogram-packaging for methionine consisting of just two layers of paper. It has a 20 percent lower CO2 footprint than the old packaging including a plastic layer.

Evonik serves growing feed markets from three world-scale production hubs in three different parts of the world: Antwerp (Belgium), Mobile (Alabama, USA), and Singapore. Annual global production capacity for MetAMINO® now exceeds 700,000 metric tons.

MetAMINO® is used in livestock production to feed animals healthily, efficiently, and sustainably. With its science-based approach, the Animal Nutrition business line of Evonik develops products, services and system solutions that help supply a growing world population with healthy, high-quality and affordable animal protein.
