Virginia Aragón has a doctorate in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) from the University of Navarra. She did 3 postdoctoral stays in the USA (University of Missouri-Kansas City, Northwestern University Medical School, and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center). Since 2003, she has been a researcher at CReSA-IRTA, where she leads the area of swine respiratory bacterial diseases, focusing on the virulence of respiratory pathogens and the role of the nasal microbiota. Her studies are aimed at the control of these diseases with alternatives to antibiotics, such as vaccines and probiotics. Her research is mainly funded through competitive projects, but also through contracts with companies in the industry.
