Pig glossary

Trichinellosis

It is a parasitic disease that affects pigs, caused by roundworms of the genus Trichinella.

The larvae develop into a cyst and grow within the striated muscle of the pig. Once the meat of an affected pig is ingested, they develop into adult worms and reproduce. The larvae are spread by blood to the muscles, where they encyst.

Nevertheless, nowadays it is a disease that has been controlled in pigs, but there are some cases of infected humans, mainly due to the consumption of wild boar meat that has not undergone the veterinary tests.
