Protein

Proteins are molecules that consist of linear amino acid chains. The amino acid sequence of each protein is determined by the gene (DNA portion) that codifies it.

Proteins are necessary for life, especially due to their structural role (they constitute 80% of the dehydrated cell protoplasm), but also due to their bioregulation (enzymes) and defense (antibodies) roles. Almost all the biological processes depend on the presence or activity of proteins.
