According to the General Statistics Office, pig farming in the first six months of 2025 was relatively favorable, thanks to good disease control and favorable selling prices, motivating farmers to maintain and expand production. However, starting in the third quarter of 2025, the outbreak and spread of African swine fever across the country caused significant losses, leading to a sharp decline in the total pig inventory in many localities, particularly in Cao Bang, Lai Chau, and Quang Tri.
Nevertheless, large-scale enterprises and farms maintained stable production by strictly implementing biosecurity measures, helping some provinces such as Tay Ninh, Gia Lai, and Lam Dong increase their herds and offset overall losses. Total pig output in 2025 reached nearly 5.4 million tons, up 4% from the previous year.

Regarding trade, the Import-Export Department cited data from the Customs Department indicating that Vietnam's pork imports increased significantly, while exports decreased in volume, reflecting a clear imbalance in the pork trade balance in 2025.
