According to what the ICEX has published, the business school of the University of Navarre has prepared a second updated edition of the 'Vademecum on Food and Beverage Markets', in which, as a novelty, there is an 'attractiveness' index for the countries that allows to determine, from a sample of 82 countries, a classification of the most attractive markets for the food sector.

The index has been obtained from six indicators taken from international sources: volume of imports of food and beverages of the country; population; consumption of food per capita; number of middle-class households; legal framework and legal certainty; GDP per capita.

According to what the IESE study reveals, the most attractive country for the food sector is US, the largest importer in the world, with an index of 66.4%, followed by China, which has the highest number of potential consumers and of middle-class households.

Nevertheless, as a whole, the region with the best business prospects is Europe, because five countries in the EU (Germany, United Kingdom, France, The Netherlands and Italy) are among the first ten countries in the ranking.
