Ammonia emissions produced by the livestock sector have decreased by 16.7% between 2005 and 2023. Spain has not only met the reduction targets set in the National Emission Ceilings (TNE) directive for the third consecutive year, but has also achieved a reduction five times greater than the requirement for the 2020-2023 period.

The data reflect Spain's compliance with the reduction commitments set out in the National Emission Ceilings Directive and with the improvement in the sustainability of livestock production.

These results are reflected in the third report on the implementation of Best Available Techniques (BAT) in the intensive swine industry and the first to be carried out in the poultry sector, published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food with data recorded in the Ecogan system.

A 93% reporting rate has been achieved for the mandatory declaration in the pig farming sector, as well as 74% and 71% respectively in the broiler and laying hen sectors.
