An action plan with measures to prevent the introduction of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boars and actions to strengthen ASF preparedness was developed in collaboration with provinces, land management organizations, and the swine industry.
The plan focuses on preventing and preparing for the control of ASF in wild boar. This includes efforts to reduce the risk of virus transmission in locations where people might leave pork products with wild boar in the wild.

Efforts are also being made to strengthen hunters' knowledge and evaluate whether improvements in management (monitoring, fencing, preventative culling) are needed. To be well-prepared for control, authorities are mapping out how best to design infection zones if ASF is detected in wild boar, and are preparing to install fencing.
The action plan will run until 2028, unless an outbreak occurs sooner. In that case, the actions outlined in the action plan will be implemented more quickly.
