Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature Minister, Femke Wiersma, opened the National Innovation Hub for Livestock Farming. Farmers and innovation developers can find information, guidance, and support for innovations that contribute to reduced nitrogen, particulate matter, and greenhouse gases.

In the coming years, a shift will be made from means-based management to goal-based management. This will give farmers more freedom to determine how they will achieve targets for nitrogen, climate, and water quality. A key element in achieving these targets is ensuring sufficient technical and social innovations that contribute to reduced emissions. Many of these innovations are promising in theory, but practical implementation often proves challenging. This calls for a centralized source of advice and support.

The National Innovation Hub for Livestock Farming is an initiative of over 25 public and private organizations united in the Accelerating Innovation in Emission Reduction for Sustainable Livestock Farming. Livestock farmers and innovation developers can contact this help desk with questions to receive guidance to put their innovative ideas into practice. The hub helps improve the innovation process, remove bottlenecks, and achieve breakthrough innovations. The ultimate goal is to help the livestock sector become even more efficient with minimal losses on their farms.
