The Secretary General of Agricultural Resources and Food Safety, Ana Rodriguez Castaño, inaugurated a day dedicated to ECOGAN, the computer tool developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food to improve the calculation of emissions in the livestock sector and the registration of Best Available Techniques (BATs), which allows progress in the accuracy and traceability of data on emissions of pollutant gases and greenhouse gases.

During the conference, the main objectives, operation, and results of the ECOGAN system were explained, and its role as technical support for the Spanish Emissions Inventory System and the State Pollutant Emissions and Sources Register was highlighted. Its use also serves as the basis for the General Register of BATs.

Ana Rodríguez highlighted the significant reductions in ammonia emissions from the livestock sector in recent years, as reflected in the data reported by the ECOGAN tool to the Spanish Emissions Inventory System (SEI).

The data show that the European Union's objective to reduce these emissions by 3% compared to 2005 has been met. In 2021, 2022, and 2023, reductions of 6.2%, 16%, and 16.7%, respectively, were achieved.

The Secretary General thanked the sector for its use, which she emphasized reflects the good acceptance of the tool, especially in the case of pigs, which represent 93% of the animal inventory. In 2024, this sector reported data from 77% of its farms to ECOGAN.
