Santa Catarina's livestock industry ended 2025 with historic results and important consolidations in the domestic and foreign markets. Cattle, chicken, and pork production reached record levels, while exports advanced and reinforced the state's position as one of the country's leading animal protein hubs. This performance was sustained by strong international demand, increased competitiveness, and productive efficiency in the field.
The swine industry ended 2025 with historic production and exports, despite price fluctuations throughout the year. After a sharp drop in early 2025, the market gradually recovered. Comparing January and December, live pig prices rose in all major states. In Santa Catarina, the increase was 3.7% (considering inflation for the period). In the wholesale market, pork prices rose significantly, with an average increase of 11.1% for the main cuts.

Production costs rose moderately. In December, the full cycle cost in Santa Catarina was R$ 6.48 per kilogram, 5.7% higher than in December 2024. Feed remains the main cost, accounting for 71.5% of the total. Piglet prices also rose during the year, but on the other hand, the terms of trade between live pigs and corn improved, favoring producers.
Exports were the highlight. Brazil shipped 1.47 million tons of pork in 2025, with revenues of 3.58 billion USD, the best result in the historical series. Santa Catarina accounted for 748,800 tons and 1.85 billion USD, leading the national ranking with over 50% of the country's exports. Production in Santa Catarina also broke records, with 18.3 million pigs, up 2.1% and the highest volume in history.
For 2026, growth is expected to continue, sustained by market diversification, strong foreign demand, and a heated domestic market. Overall, the outlook is positive for pig farming, with costs under control and good prospects for profitability.
