Russia: increase in pig slaughterings

According to the data published by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, between January and May 2015 pig production reached 1.206 million tonnes liveweight: an increase by 7.9% or 88,800 tonnes in comparison with the same period in 2014.

The highest increase in the production of pigs to be slaughtered was seen in the regions of Kursk (+32.7%), Belgorod (+6.4%), Pskov (+35.9%), Tambov (+11.1%), Tver (+46.6%), Novosibirsk (+46.4%) and Chelyabinsk (+23.1%).

According to the director of the Department of Livestock and of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Labinova, the current positive trend will reduce the time needed to reach the production level needed to meet the needs of the domestic market and to the able to do without pork imports.
