The Official Journal of the European Union has published Regulation (EU) 2015/1474 of the Commission of 27 August 2015 on the use of recycled hot water to eliminate microbiological contamination on the surface of carcasses.

This Regulation approves the use of recycled hot water as a technique for the decontamination of carcasses after that, in September 2010, the EFSA’s Panel on Biological Hazards (BIOHAZ) drafted a favourable scientific judgement. According to this judgement, recycled hot water is as effective as drinking water to reduce microbiological contamination on the surfaces, and the main risks of its use are the microbiological hazards related to certain heat-resistant bacterial spores.

So, Regulation (EU) 2015/1474 allows the operators of food companies to use recycled hot water to eliminate the microbiological contamination on the surface of carcasses following certain terms of use.
