Imports of live pigs for slaughter increased by 5.4% (+35,802 pigs) between January and September 2025 when compared to the same period in 2024, rising from 662,394 head last year to 698,196 head this year, according to data published by GPP, provided by INE as preliminary data. Total weight increased by 7.5%, rising from 70,254 tons in 2024 to 75,493 tons this year. This gives an average weight of 108.1 kg live weight in 2025, compared to 106.1 kg live weight in 2024.
Imports of piglets weighing less than 50 kg live weight totalled 83,753 head in the first nine months of 2025, with an average live weight of 12 kg, compared to 85,869 head in 2024 with an average live weight of 12 kg. In other words, 2,116 fewer head entered this year than in 2024, with the same average live weight.

Pork and pork product imports increased by 6.8%, rising from 74,662 tons in 2024 to 79,735 tons in 2025. Frozen pork imports decreased by 0.5%, from 18,131 tons in 2024 to 18,042 tons in 2025. Fresh/chilled pork imports increased by 9.1%, rising from 56,531 tons in 2024 to 61,693 tons in 2025.
Offal imports increased by 59.9%, rising from 965 tons in 2024 to 1,543 tons in 2025.
In terms of value in euros, import revenue increased by 2.5% in 2025, or +10.66 million euros, rising from 427.379 million euros in 2024 to 438.037 million euros in 2025.
