The Agriculture department is looking at prescribing suggested retail prices (SRP) for chicken and pork in the holiday season. The SRP, along with imports, aim at preventing price spikes in Metro Manila in the face of an expected tight supply during the holidays.

Renato R. Eleria, chairman of the National Federation of Hog Farmers, Inc., said "I would suggest below P180 per kilogram. If prices are higher than P180/kg., consumers will no longer buy pork." Prime pork cuts like pigue, kasim and liempo are now sold in Metro Manila wet markets at P150-P190/kg.

Moreover, pork and chicken imports are on the way. The arrival of the supply of pork from the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga in Mindanao, which consists of about 3,000 heads, is expected in the last week of November and in December, and there are also expect the arrival of 9,500 metric tons of pork from Canada, United States and South Korea.
