The sustainability matrix was developed as part of the Interreg RAMBO project. RAMBO stands for "Ammonia Reduction through Source-Oriented and Supporting Solutions" and focuses on testing, demonstrating, and broadly disseminating knowledge about measures that help reduce emissions from pig and poultry barns.
The matrix is a user-friendly, free Excel tool that helps pig or poultry farmers quickly understand which ammonia emission reduction measures or techniques best suit their needs, for both new construction and renovations. Both Flemish and Dutch livestock farmers can use it.

Farmers fill in the company and barn details, such as location, animal species, barn type, and desired reduction. Then they will receive an overview of measures and techniques for reducing ammonia emissions that are suitable for their situation. They can simulate different scenarios and compare them based on emission reduction percentage, applicability, and more. Afterwards, they can select their desired choice of measures by barn and request more technical information.
The tool also considers farmers' technical affinity: those who prefer not to use complex installations will primarily see management measures. The matrix only displays recognized systems. The result is easily exported as a PDF, useful for consultation with advisors or as an attachment to a permit application.
The results are indicative but do not apply to the calculation of the PAS reference for 2030 (valid in Flanders). It is recommended that you contact an advisor or competent authority before implementing any measure or technique.
