Mantua is the second leading province in Italy in terms of the number of pigs raised, with just under one million head, and is becoming the sole national headquarters for all five CUNs (National Single Commissions) in the pig farming industry. CUNs are Italy's national joint commissions responsible for defining market trends and indicative reference prices for agricultural products, bringing together producer and processor representatives under an institutional framework.
Starting on May 31, the “Breeding pigs” and “Slaughter pigs” CUNs will be established at the Mantua Commodities Exchange; On June 1 and June 8, the “Fat and Lard” and “Fresh Pork Cuts” CUNs will also be established at the Parma Commodities Exchange.

From the date of establishment, the national commodity exchanges and trading rooms at the Chambers of Commerce will suspend their independent price surveys for the product categories covered by the Single Commissions.
