The German pig producers' association, ISN, has published the ranking of the country's leading slaughterhouses for 2024.
Last year was marked by major structural changes in the German slaughterhouse industry. In particular, the withdrawal of the Dutch company Vion from the German market at the beginning of 2024 brought about some changes. The Southern Bavarian producer association (Erzeugergemeinschaft Südbayern) took over two slaughterhouses (Landshut and Vilshofen) from the Dutch group, appearing for the first time in the ISN slaughterhouse ranking. As a result, the share of the top 10 slaughterhouses dropped from 82.5% in 2023 to 76.5%.

Tönnies remains the leader by far. The 5.6% drop in pig slaughter in 2024 should not obscure the company's continued growth trajectory. Westfleisch is ranked second and managed to increase slaughter by 6.2% to 6.9 million head, increasing Westfleisch's market share by 0.7% to 15.5%. Vion's withdrawal from the German market has increased the gap between the two leading companies, Tönnies and Westfleisch, with third place now held by Danish Crown. In 2024, Vion took fourth place with 2.4 million head slaughtered, but will disappear from the list in 2025.
