Germany - Increase in the production of pork

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), commercial meat production rose by 2% to almost 3.8 million tonnes in Germany in the first half of 2009 against the first half of 2008.

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), commercial meat production rose by 2% to almost 3.8 million tonnes in Germany in the first half of 2009 against the first half of 2008.

Pork accounted for by far the largest share with 2.6 million tonnes (68.5%); poultry reached a share of 16.4% with 620,000 tonnes. Compared with the first six months of 2008, there was a particularly strong increase in the production of pork, which was up 3.3%. In contrast, in the first half of 2009 the production of poultry did not continue to grow as markedly as before. It increased slightly by 1.6% against the first six months of the preceding year.
