France and Japan agreed to secure exports of French pork and offal against the threat of African swine fever. This agreement, which takes effect immediately, marks the culmination of seven years of negotiations between the health authorities of both countries.
The purpose of this agreement is to guarantee French exports of pork and offal to Japan. It stipulates that, in the event of an ASF outbreak in the French territory, exports may resume once the regulated areas of France have been defined and recognized by the European Commission, and after Japan has adopted its own administrative decision based on this update.

Japan thus formally recognizes the regulated zones implemented in France and the effectiveness of the control measures in place, which will allow trade flows from disease-free areas to continue.
This new agreement recognizing regionalization comes four years after the one signed with China and represents a collective success for the swine industry, the result of joint efforts between French and Japanese authorities and professionals.
