The French swine inventory continued to decline in 2025 (-0.6%), specially in breeding sows (-2.5%). However, slaughter volumes increased slightly over the past two years, supported by higher average carcass weights.
European pig prices experienced strong fluctuations in 2025, affected by weakening international demand, reduced purchases from Chine and tariffs imposed by this country, as well as African Swine Fever in Spain, factors that put downward pressure on prices.

Pork consumption in France increased (+2.7%), at a faster pace that production (+0.8%), resulting in a self-sufficiency rate below 100%, an unprecedented situation in recent years.
The trade balance remained positive, although it deteriorated in fresh, chilled, and frozen pork due to a decline in French exports. The deficit processed pork products and cured meats remained a concern.
