EU agriculture ministers threw their weight yesterday (21 February) behind calls for mandatory origin labelling of pork, lamb and poultry, with milk and dairy products to follow later on.

The Council adopted its first-reading-position on a draft regulation on food information to
consumers. The Italian delegation voted against.

This new piece of legislation aims to ensure that food labels carry essential information in a clear and legible way, thereby enabling consumers to make balanced and healthier dietary choices.
