Danish pig producers have proposed a cessation plan following an election campaign in which pork production in Denmark has been subject to strong political and social pressure, including explicit calls from political actors to significantly reduce or even shut down pig production. This situation has generated strong discouragement among farmers.
However, the president of the pork industry at Landbrug & Fødevarer (main representative organization of the agri-food sector in Denmark), H.C. Gæmelke, has made the official position clear: although he understands the origin of the proposal, he does not support it. The leader acknowledges that media and political pressure has been intense and discouraging, but considers that the public debate has ignores key aspects such as the economic and social impact of reducing the sector, especially in rural employment, the meat industry, and related activities.

Instead of promoting the exit of producers, the sector supports the need to stablish conditions that allow maintaining and developing production in Denmark. In this regard, Gæmelke highlights the importance of encouraging investment in animal welfare and the continuous improvement of the production system.
