In 2017 negotiations were initiated with the country's sanitary authority after the public and private sectors expressed interest in obtaining eligibility for the export of Colombian pork to Singapore.

In the following years, Colombia sent information for risk assessment to continue the process. In mid-2021, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) sent the sanitary requirements to be met and the relevant application forms for establishments interested in exporting pork to the country.

In May of this year, the SFA made several visits to Colombian pig farms and slaughterhouses to evaluate the animal health and food safety system for the export of pork and pork products. Thanks to the results of these visits, Singapore gave its approval for the export of these products.

Singapore is a country with 5,454,000 inhabitants and, according to the Colombian Ministry of Commerce, has an economy of approximately USD 340,000 million and imports a little more than USD 359,000 million globally, of which USD 320 million correspond to pork imports. This reflects the importance of this market worldwide and what it represents for Colombia and for the pork sector to have the opportunity to export to this country.
