In the setting of the joint work between the Chilean Agency for Food Harmlessness and Quality (ACHIPIA) and the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), a framework agreement was signed that will allow to strengthen, through a greater scientific and technological research, the National Food Harmlessness and Quality System (SNICA).

“This agreement with the ACHIPIA is included in the challenges that we have in Chile regarding food safety and harmlessness, where relevance wants to be given, in different project lines, to applied science, technological research and to the CONICYT’s contributions regarding matters related to health and food,” said Mr. Mario Hamuy, President of the CONICYT’s Counsel.

On the other hand, a tender was presented for obtaining financing for R&D&I through a FONDEF IDeA thematic focus regarding food quality and harmlessness for the first time in Chile. This tender is presented to the scientific community in the food harmlessness area for the first time in Chile with the aim of supporting the execution of several scientific and technological research projects. In specific terms, this project will count on resources amounting 1 billion Chilean pesos to be divided between the projects that apply for the funds, that will allow the development of 5 initiatives within 4-5 years.

The lines of research of the tender are oriented towards four main matters, on this occasion: the development of technological alternatives for the replacement of conventional agrochemicals and veterinary drugs, the generation of technologies for the control and the reduction of environmental pollutants or those contaminants generated in raw materials (acrylamides, furans, dioxins, heavy metals, etc.), the development of new technologies for the reduction of biological pollutants, and proposals for new diagnostic elements for the detection of chemical or biological hazards.
