The Association of Pig Breeders of Rio Grande do Sul (ACSURS) reminds all pig farmers in Rio Grande do Sul about the deadline for full compliance with Normative Instruction DSA No. 10/2023, which establishes the minimum biosecurity guidelines for commercial pig farms in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The deadline is May 18, 2026, by which time all farms must be fully compliant.
Published on May 18, 2023, the Normative Instruction defined a total period of 36 months for the adaptation of existing farms, structured in three stages of requirements. The first two stages, with deadlines of up to 12 months and up to 24 months after publication, covered initial and intermediate biosecurity requirements, allowing for gradual adjustments without the need to dismantle or relocate existing structures.

In 2026, producers will enter the third and final stage, corresponding to a period of up to 36 months after publication, which focuses on fundamental structural requirements for the sanitary protection of the swine herd:
- Construction of isolation fences for the internal area
- Construction of sanitary barriers
- Construction of a loading/unloading ramp next to the isolation fence, except in nursery units and finishing units that conduct sanitary down times in an "all in/all out" system
- Placement of screens on the ventilation openings of the barns
