The Interprofessional Association for Belgian Meat (IVB) is taking a significant step toward improving communication and data sharing within the sector. Designated by the Flemish Government, the IVB plays a central role in collecting, disseminating, and standardizing slaughter data in both the cattle and pig farming sectors.

Provision of slaughter data collected in the slaughterhouses has been active for years for all Belgian pig and cattle farmers via the IVB website. An automatic message by e-mail could also be provided for producers who registered once with IVB for this purpose.

Starting November 13, 2025, these emails will be sent to all livestock farmers for whom IVB has an email address. Together, this collection of contact information ensures that 95% of active Belgian pig farmers will now automatically receive an email with slaughter results. They no longer need to take any initiative themselves.

The slaughter data is provided to the IVB by the Flemish slaughterhouses no later than 24 hours after slaughter, after which it is immediately visible on the IVB website. An automatic mailing—now sent to all producers—is sent the following morning at 6:00 a.m.

In addition to the Flemish slaughterhouses' obligation to make their data available to IVB, data from the Brussels Region (Anderlecht slaughterhouse) and several Walloon slaughterhouses (Wama Beef Ciney, ADL Liège, EMG Mouscron, and Lovenfosse Aubel slaughterhouses) are also voluntarily transferred to IVB, after which they are made available to farmers in the same way. This also allows Walloon farmers to use IVB.

IVB obtains data from all Flemish livestock farmers from the other Walloon slaughterhouses through its Walloon counterpart, CW3C. However, verification of this data by IVB is currently not possible.

To further support the sector, IVB has developed a new website with clear dashboards and quick calculation modules. These allow producers to quickly compare batches of slaughtered animals with minimal input and determine their position within the sector. Both Flemish and Walloon cattle and pig farmers can use these advanced tools, contributing to better insight and strategic planning.

With these initiatives, IVB is strengthening its interprofessional role in the Belgian meat industry. By improving data sharing and offering user-friendly digital tools, the organization supports livestock farmers in optimizing their business operations and promoting transparency within the sector. These developments underscore IVB's commitment to sustainable and efficient meat production in Belgium.
