XI Congreso Nacional de Suinicultura

Almeirim, 9 October 2025 – The WelFarmers project had a prominent presence at the XI Congreso Nacional de Suinicultura, participating in the panel titled “WelFarmers Project: A Practical Approach to Animal Welfare”, held during the second day of the event.

The session began with a presentation by Javier Lorente (333), who offered an update on the progress of the project, highlighting the best practices selected during the first round and the challenges involved in implementing them across different production systems.

The presentation was followed by a roundtable discussion moderated by Divanildo Monteiro, with contributions from WelFarmers experts Edgar Manzanilla García (TEAGASC), Arturo Hernangómez (ANPROGAPOR), António Tavares (FPAS), and Mariana Almeida (UTAD). The session sparked an engaging debate, both among the panellists and with the audience, about how these practices could improve farm conditions—while also acknowledging the practical challenges of applying them in different systems and the need to evaluate each case individually.

The event was a valuable opportunity to reinforce the relevance of practical, science-based solutions in improving animal welfare and to encourage dialogue among key stakeholders in the pig farming sector.
