The diagnostic of Swine Influenza represents a challenge for many reasons: Is strictly a respiratory pathogen, with a short excretion period (3-7 days). The symptoms made by the fever and the multiplication of the virus can be numerous and unspecific, from reproductive to respiratory, epidemic or endemic. Because of that, Influenza circulation of one or more subtypes should be considered into many differential diagnostics. The decision about which samples are suitable, would depend on the existence of affected animals (fever, cough), the phase in which appear (sows, piglets), and what we want to detect (virus or antibodies). In order to help technicians to take decisions, IDT distributes a diagnostic guideline, in combination of specific kits for virology and serology diagnostic.

These kits contain the necessary material and instructions for an optimal sampling, that in combination of a wide proposal of analytical techniques (oral fluid and nasal swab PCR, ELISA and HI serology), would make possible to find and adapted combination of diagnostics for identifying safely and efficiently the presence/absence of subtype/s that can explain the observed symptoms.
