At Danish Genetics, we use CASA technology to obtain even more detailed results.

For many years, semen analysis was done with light optical microscope set-ups. At Danish Genetics, we use CASA technology to obtain even more detailed results, since CASA is a system developed specifically for semen analysis.

Our results are all based on data and not a subjective assessment. For our customers and partners, this means that the semen delivered to them has undergone a uniform, reliable, and standardized analysis every time.

Danish Genetics and our Danish partner, AI Station Mors, have recently invested in several new CASA systems to analyze semen, and to be able to test all the boars in their expanding station. Also, not only do we test all the boars with CASA, but they are also tested at their first mount and throughout their lifetime, so we can follow up and control the evolution of the boars’ semen quality. This is one way to make sure we improve the genetic value of our herds and our customers’ farm.

What is CASA?

CASA is short for Computer Assisted Semen Analysis. In the analysis, the semen is tested for motility, morphology and concentration. i.e., sperm motility, defects, and concentration of sperm.

Using CASA, we see several advantages:

  • Fast
  • Reliable
  • User friendly

Furthermore, CASA allows us to create several reports that provide deeper insights to the individual boar. We use this data in our breeding work and as a contribution to genetic purposes.
