BASF tips for rodent control.

Bait points should be placed in high-activity areas, both indoors and outdoors, around buildings:

  • In areas most frequented by rats, next to walls, between areas where they eat and live.
  • In places where the presence of rodent droppings, tracks, and stains are evident.
  • In holes and burrows (depending on the product and type of registration).
  • In the surroundings of the points of greatest activity to guarantee the total control of the pest on the farm.

When applying baits always follow the recommendations for use on the label. To combat rat neophobia, it is best to place the bait boxes several days before placing the bait inside.

Once treatment is started in month 0, the rat and mouse population drops and the level of infestation is reduced. The higher the level of control obtained, the longer it will be before the treatment has to be repeated. When total control (100%) has been achieved, the treatment should be repeated after a few months, when the site is recolonized by rats from neighboring sites.

Seventy percent control is unacceptable as it leads to rapid population recovery. The goal should be 100% control, which can be achieved with a good integrated management program and by using high potency rodenticides such as Selontra®, BASF's non-anticoagulant rodenticide that allows faster control of the infestation.
