How much do swine facilities cost in France?

Construction costs in France stabilize: up 0.7% in a year, following several years of continuous increases.

From January 2024 to January 2025, the national overall construction cost index (BT01) rose just 0.7%. This represents a real pause in the price increases observed since the resumption of activity following the COVID-19 pandemic. It confirms the signs of a slowdown in the construction market already observed last year.

Across all production phases, the cost per place only increased by 1.16%: farrowing (+1.01%), gestation (+0.90%), nursery (+1.20%), and finishing (+1.52%). This slowdown in costs affects all trades (earthworks, masonry, structure, interior finishes).

It remains to be seen whether this heralds a decline, stabilization, or a new upturn in construction costs in the coming months.

We have to go back ten years in order to find such moderate growth. Back then, it corresponded to a major crisis in the construction industry, linked to a sluggish swine market. As a result, the number of new builds was very low. In 2025, the context is different: the swine industry's good economic results over the last two years seem to be encouraging project developers to invest. Farrowing and finishing remain the two production phases in which the vast majority of projects are concentrated.

Debates surrounding the Duplomb bill, which aims to reduce barriers to agricultural activity, could have a direct impact on the construction market. For pig production, this law seeks to simplify and streamline administrative procedures for farm expansion projects. It is scheduled to come into force in 2026.
