There is an increase of ill thrift and laboured abdominal breathing in the weaners. There is poor response to antimicrobial treatment. Mortality ranges from 4 to 30%. What is the most likely cause of this lesion?
Interstitial pneumonia was confirmed by histological examination. RT-PCR test came back positive to PCV-2 infection and negative to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (enzootic pneumonia), swine influenza and PRRS.
The unit was not vaccinating against PCV-2.
