The first training of trainers (TOT) session of the OIE “Improved Animal Welfare Programme” took place in Bogor, Indonesia from 30th October to 2nd November 2012 with the support of the Government of Indonesia and of the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF).

The OIE “Improved Animal Welfare Programme” aims to improve the welfare of farm animals during transport and at slaughterhouses in some Member Countries.

Further sessions in the region are already planned: the Philippines are next to benefit from the Programme.

Also in the region, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will host the next OIE Global Conference on Animal Welfare from 6th to 8th of November 2012, which is aimed, among others, at addressing regional expectations for implementation of OIE Standards.
