In comparison with 2009, the number of farms dedicated to swine has decreased by 4.6%.

Despite this decrease in the number of farms, the swine census has risen slightly, a total of 1.2%. As in 2009m the number of fattening pigs (over 50kg) increased in Flanders as well as Valona, although the census shows a decrease in breeders, which has led to a forecast of a swine population decrease in the near future.
