MSD Animal Health announces that “There’s no feed to waste"

Therefore, we truly believe that is time to look for alternatives: applicable, reasoned solutions that can help improve farms’ profitability. 

Indeed, feed commodity prices are skyrocketing and, worst of all, we do not have the guaranteed supply of cereals to feed our pigs. We must admit it, we are now living through difficult times, with the highest inflation for the last 30 years (and it’s far from over). Given this scenario, what we are clear about is that there is a need to reduce economic losses, thus we need to avoid feed wastage on our farms. 

But, as if all this wasn’t enough, we still have to continue dealing with a hidden enemy that dramatically inhibits the growth of pigs (ADG -11% on average) and worsens the feed conversion rate (+7%): Lawsonia intracellularis, causing ileitis among other forms of disease.  Just as a reminder, Ileitis also reduces homogeneity within the batches, leading to higher feed and space costs. 

Under these current conditions, the estimated economic value of production losses caused by ileitis in the fattening stage, reaches over €25 per marketed pig. 

That’s the main reason why controlling ileitis is both an animal health and economic necessity, especially in these hard times. Now, more than ever, is there a need to effectively vaccinate your pigs against ileitis.
