4th International Salmonella Symposium
On the 9th and 10th of October 2018, Salmonella experts from all over Europe met to discuss the latest developments in research and particularly how the results of this research could be applied in everyday life.
Every “link” (breeding farms, fattening farms, slaughter houses, retailers) in the production chain has to do its part in order to prevent the transmission of Salmonella from pigs to humans via pig meat. On-farm preventive measures such as biosecurity (internal and external) and hygiene play an important role. The vaccination of sows and piglets can also help to reduce on-farm prevalence of Salmonella, as was shown by several field trials in different European countries.
