Lukas Schwarz studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and graduated in 2010. Afterwards he started his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Parasitology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna investigating the humoral immune response of Cystoisosporasuis. From 2010 to 2013 he was working as a scientific employee at the Institute of Parasitology. Since 2013 he is employed as university assistant at the University Clinic for Swine at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. His research interests mainly are enteric diseases and parasitic infections in swine. His work includes supporting practitioners in diagnostic workups of herd problems and of clinical cases from the field as well as education.

Clinical case: Blastocystis sp.: Do we have to consider a new enteropathogen?

Due to the fact that no known enteropathogen was found in clinically relevant amounts, importance of massive Blastocystis sp. infestation was counted as significant in this case.
