The veterinary authorities of the Ukraine have authorized the mass slaughtering of pigs due to the threat of African swine fever.

In Lugansk region, in order to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) from the border regions of the Russian Federation, a total of 14,000 pigs have been killed.

The Veterinary Service has also banned the import of pigs from Georgia, Armenia and five districts in Russia. The prohibition applies to all pork products.
