The Agriculture and Livestock Sector (SAG) is carrying out a monitoring of the pig farms in the region of Los Lagos as a part of the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) Official Control and Eradication Programme. The aim of the SAG's task in this matter is to detect the presence of the disease in a timely manner.

The SAG's Regional Director, Mr. Andrés Duval, reported that the inspectors are visiting the pig farms, informing the owners about the symptoms of the disease and collecting blood samples that are sent to the SAG's laboratory Lo Aguirre (in Santiago) to be analysed.

Similarly, the SAG's regional authority reported that the livestock owners must inform of the date of entrance and exit of their animals, and of their place of origin and destination. “Any animal movement (including pigs) must be made using the Animal Movement Form (FMA), a free document available in any of the SAG's ofices and in the authorised Chilean police offices.
