JSR’s Technical Conference offers food for thought.

The 21st JSR Technical Conference, this year entitled ‘Science – The Key to Feeding the World’, takes place on the 14th September at Nottingham University’s Sutton Bonnington Campus.

The annual conference continues to attract key pig industry figures and is considered to be one of the more significant technical events in the pig industry calendar. This year’s event sees the conference come of age by celebrating its 21st anniversary.

The National Week of Pig Cattle, SEPOR, initiates its walking in 1968, learning in the great socio-economic importance that the pig sector has in the Region of Murcia. In the year 1999, at the request of cattle companies and companies east ample Contest to other species: bovine, goat and bovine.

The 23rd SPACE, held from 15 to 18 September 2009, confirmed its status as an essential date in the livestock industry calendar, offering unbeatable opportunities for stimulating and profitable contacts for industry professionals, despite the backdrop of the current crisis.

It brought together almost 1,300 exhibitors and 110,000 visitors (108,077), an excellent attendance given the current difficulties in the industry. Most exhibitors were pleasantly surprised by the number, and especially the nature, of the visitors they encountered, and with the high quality contacts they made. Even if these contacts do not immediately result in new capital projects, a large number of farmers outlined specific plans to adapt their farms and develop their facilities.

The increase in the number of international visitors (9,317) and their high status in the industry was a matter of particular note for exhibitors.

The livestock presentations and competitions, most notably the Salers and Simmental festivals, further reinforced SPACE's reputation as a world-class breeders' event.

The 23rd SPACE was an event of exceptional quality. SPACE confirmed its position as the second most important livestock industry show in the world.

SPACE looks forward to welcoming exhibitors and visitors to its 24th event from 14 to 17 September 2010.

Allen D. Leman Swine Conference

In 1974 Dr. Leman, a new University of Minnesota Extension Veterinarian and Dr. Jim Hanson, Director of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s continuing education program initiated this conference to present new information and discuss issues important to the swine industry. Al understood how a university could influence practitioners and empower them to be leaders for the swine industry.

This conference for Minnesota practitioners began in a small lecture hall on the St. Paul Campus and has evolved into the multi-session, international meeting it is today.

Throughout his career, Dr. Leman worked to define the link between swine disease and swine production. His unwavering dedication to the education of practicing veterinarians was manifested, at least in part, through his leadership of this conference.

Al left the University of Minnesota in 1986. After his death in 1992, the conference was renamed in his honor. The swine faculty continues to provide the leadership in developing this program and remains committed to Al’s vision of excellence.
