What does 333 mean? The initiated in the world of pig production will know that the gestation of the sow is, approximately, 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days long, so it is a key number. In this section you will find our posts.

José Barceló Bonada died yesterday

[about 333]

29/jun/2009 - (7 comments)

José Barceló BondaYesterday, José Barceló Bonada passed away at the age of 49 due to a heart attack. He was a renowned international porcine consultant, responsible for the school Sus Scrofa Fundación Barceló, founding member of the dissolved porcine consultancy B&M and one of the creators of the websites 3tres3.com and pig333.com. José Barceló was also a member of various professional associations (IVS, IPVS, AASP, ANAPORC, Real Academia de Ciencias de Cataluña...) and he took part in many national and international conferences.

At pig333.com we are deeply saddened by the loss of a great veterinarian, colleague and friend. José was a person with endless energy who lived life to the full and who put all his heart and effort into the many projects that he was involved in. He always had a thousand ideas running around in his head with which he involved us with his peculiar manner of explaining them. He was capable of transmitting his incredible capacity for work, and he always found the right moment to interrupt us with a joke or with one of his brilliant anecdotes (we particularly liked the one about the red swimming trunks that left little to the imagination).

From here we send our sincerest condolences to his wife and children.

No t’oblidarem (We will not forget you)

You have been a son of your father. Both of you with great character. You've left your mark everywhere you visited.
I'll keep you in my memory.
Un bon cel! (I wish you enjoy heaven!)

Pep Barceló was one of the best vets and colleagues, with his endless energy and enthusiasm he was always in the mood for teaching. Spanish swine knowledge should be divided into before and after Barceló.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I'm shocked and emotionally devastated with his passing away. We made grand plans for Sus Scrofa and Pig333 for Asia during his brief visit to the Philippines last January. I will miss a jolly but workaholic friend.

I first met José when he saw practice with me and Alastair Douglas in Framlingham, Suffolk, UK some 20 years ago. Even in those early days it was obvious that he was an extremely enterprising person, prepared to travel anywhere to gain knowledge and experience. Our pig practice was called D&M and we were flattered that Jose should choose a similar logo, B&M, when he set up his first consultancy. He and I remained good friends ever since. In José’s company there was never a dull moment – he was one of those rare individuals who could bring a smile to anyone’s face in any situation.
I had the opportunity of carrying out a joint consultancy visit with him in Spain as recently as March of this year and we were together again at a conference in Madrid just last week.

José was a great character and an excellent professional. He will be hugely missed by all who knew him and worked with him – friends, colleagues and farmers alike. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and my thoughts are with them at this sad time.

I was saddened to learn of Jose's death from John Mackinnon. Jose came to Framlingham to see practice with us when he was considering going into the veterinary pig world. It was a pleasure to have such an enthusiastic member of the profession to work alongside. He had boundless energy and was so keen. He went on to learn about the milling side with Kevin Stickney and John. Jose was a determnined young man; I beleive he taught flamenco dancing to help pay his way through veterinary school.
I am sure he will be missed by his clients and also by his wife Berta and family.
